Back to Life, Back to Reality
(Kind Of)
Because it’s August,
and summer break is on life support.
Let’s talk about this weird limbo we’re in:
Summer’s technically still here, but the Target aisles are screaming “BACK TO SCHOOL!” My inbox is filling up with district emails, and I just saw someone post their “first day of school” picture while my kid is still in pajamas… at noon.
So what do we do with this strange, in-between time? We reset.
We stretch out the final days of summer while slowly reclaiming our sanity.
What My Life Looks Like Right Now:
I’ve got a Junior who’s suddenly taller than me and basically allergic to speaking before noon.
A brand-new high school freshman who’s part excited, part terrified, and fully impossible to wake up.
A 6th grader entering middle school who thinks she’s grown now.
And then… my “baby” second grader — who, let’s face it, pretty much raises himself at this point. As long as there are snacks, he’s fine.
🏈 My son is back in football, so I’m back in full Sports Mom Mode, digging out the folding chair, packing the cooler, and chasing cleats.
🧑🏫 I’m mentally prepping to re-enter life as a full-time educator, juggling all things lesson plans, open house nights, and classroom chaos.
👩👧👦 And yes — I see you, stay-at-home moms, doing your own kind of full-time emotional labor and logistics planning. You’re just as in it.
Here's What I'm Starting to Do:
This is the Transition Zone
It’s not about being 100% ready. It’s about getting ahead of the spiral.
This is the time to breathe, reset, and gently nudge the household (and myself) out of survival mode.
So here’s your reminder:
You don’t have to go from beach day to bullet journal in 24 hours.
Give yourself time.
Make a list.
Light a candle.
And maybe clean out one junk drawer just to feel like a queen.
Final Thought:
This time of year is messy and magical.
You’re doing more than you think.
You’re leading your family into a new season, one grocery run and one calendar sync at a time.
Let August be the soft launch of your comeback — on the field, at home, and everywhere in between.
Cheers to thriving, not just surviving
— and remember, your Mommy Mindset Matters.
